19-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in Milton Trailer; Boyfriend Arrested in Alabama on Homicide Charge

The community of Milton is mourning the tragic loss of Azalia Heather Dotson-Salinas, a 19-year-old woman whose life was cut short in a heartbreaking case that has now led to an arrest across state lines.

According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 7:12 a.m. on February 13 to a residence on Floridale Drive after receiving a report of an unconscious woman inside a trailer. When first responders arrived, they discovered Azalia deceased at the scene.

What began as a medical emergency quickly evolved into a criminal investigation. After processing evidence and conducting interviews with family members and others connected to the case, detectives determined that Azalia’s death was a homicide.

Investigators identified her boyfriend, Dominic Alexander Van Wasshenova, 18, as a person of interest. Authorities later located him traveling along Interstate 65 near Athens. Deputies from the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Huntsville Police Department, made contact with him and detained him without further incident.

Detectives from Santa Rosa County traveled to Alabama to conduct an interview. Following that interview, Van Wasshenova was arrested on a homicide charge described by authorities as murder dangerous and depraved without premeditation.

He is currently being held at the Limestone County Jail, where he awaits extradition to Florida as the investigation continues.

Azalia’s death has left family, friends, and the broader community devastated. At just 19 years old, she was at the beginning of adulthood, with hopes and dreams that will now go unrealized. Loved ones remember her as vibrant and deeply cherished, and they now face the unimaginable pain of navigating life without her.

Law enforcement officials emphasize that the investigation remains active and ongoing. As authorities continue their work, the focus in Milton and beyond remains on seeking justice for Azalia and supporting those who are grieving this profound loss.
