In the early morning hours of February 21, 2026, the city of Joliet was met with heartbreaking news following a tragic traffic collision that claimed a young life far too soon.

At approximately 2:46 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Channahon Road and Houbolt Road after reports of a serious crash with injuries. According to preliminary findings, a Mercury Grand Marquis traveling eastbound on Channahon Road entered the intersection and collided with a northbound semi-tractor trailer. The impact was devastating.

The 20-year-old driver of the Mercury was transported by the Joliet Fire Department to St. Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, the 21-year-old passenger was found unresponsive at the scene and was pronounced deceased by the Will County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the semi-tractor trailer was not injured.

While authorities continue their investigation and reconstruction of the crash, today we pause not on the details of the collision, but on the life that was lost.
