Woman Arrested in Connection With Death of 83-Year-Old Woman in Stockton
Authorities in Stockton, California, have arrested a suspect following the death of an 83-year-old woman in what police say has now been ruled a homicide.
According to the Stockton Police Department, officers responded Friday morning to a residence in the 1400 block of Woodland Drive after the Stockton Fire Department reported that a woman had been found deceased inside the home. Emergency personnel had initially been called to the location after the discovery of the elderly woman’s body.
When officers arrived, detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. What initially appeared to be a suspicious situation quickly escalated as investigators gathered evidence at the scene. After conducting preliminary interviews and examining the circumstances, authorities determined that the woman’s death was the result of a homicide.
Following the investigation, police identified 61-year-old Trina Johnson as the primary suspect in the case. On Saturday, officers located Johnson and took her into custody without incident.
Johnson has since been booked into the San Joaquin County Jail, where she now faces homicide charges. Officials have not yet released additional details about how the victim died or the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
Investigators say the case remains active, and detectives are continuing to work to determine the full circumstances that led to the elderly woman’s death. Authorities have also not yet publicly identified the victim.
The tragic incident marks the fourth homicide reported in Stockton since the beginning of the year, according to police. Community members in the area have expressed concern and sadness as the investigation continues.
