MONROE COUNTY, Mich. — The Monroe County community is mourning the tragic loss of Jeanne Renee Peterson, 34, of Sterling Heights, whose body was recovered from Lake Erie on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Jeanne had been reported missing in December 2025 after last being seen in Detroit, leaving family, friends, and loved ones in a state of uncertainty and heartbreak for months.

According to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough, Monroe County Central Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 11:27 a.m. reporting a body floating near the shoreline in the 13000 block of Shady Lane, close to Bolles Harbor in Monroe Township. Members of the Monroe Township Fire Department promptly responded, entering the water to recover the body and bring it safely to shore. The identification confirmed the heartbreaking reality that Jeanne Peterson had lost her life.

Jeanne Renee Peterson is remembered as a vibrant and caring individual whose presence touched the lives of many.
